Normally I wouldn’t blog on just one solitary event that doesn’t sound, probably, very noteworthy. HOWEVER. This made me laugh like an angry goose, so I decided to share it with the world.
Earlier this evening I was on the phone with my grandma back home when two 5th form boys walked by (they are about 10 or 11 years old). They saw me on the phone and decided it was really fascinating. The said “hello” and pretended to leave.
A few seconds later I could hear them snickering and fidgeting directly below my window (I don’t live on the first floor). I was still on the phone at this point, so my grandma could hear all of this too:
“MY NAME IS YURA.”
“I LIKE DOGS.”
“I LIKE BABY OH YEAH.”
“I LOVE SOME CATS.”
“OHMYGOT”
The sort-of English continued for a few minutes, with both of us on the phone laughing. All of a sudden flowers started whizzing by the window. Red daisies, pink roses, white bunches of flowers all zooming up and down like fireworks.
After one would successfully make it inside the open window, the victor would shout, “это я!” telling me it was him that made the basket.
This carried on for maybe 15 minutes, and I was accumulating a nice pile of flowers. I knew I shouldn’t be encouraging them, but I dropped them some chocolate and sent them on their way.
They came back a few minutes later and this time threw up small fruits. Unripened apricots? Tree-pickles? I couldn’t tell what they were. Three babushyas charged out from somewhere, brandishing hoes, and the two boys scurried off laughing.
It wasn’t ten minutes later that they returned- this time singing and waving around fist-fulls of flowers. They resumed flinging wild roses into the window before another two babushyas appeared and chased them off for good.
I couldn’t help but laughing while feeling a little guilty at the street now full of old ladies fussing and shuffling and pawing at their ruffled gardens. Sorry!!

PS: More to come at the conclusion of this week’s summer camp!

I love this! Thanks for posting it! It made my day, too.
FYI, I will be in Germany for a summer school, July 5-9. Where will you be at that time? If nothing else, we can think about how close we are in the world! ^^
Their English is better than the students (in junior high) I had >D Somehow, this doesn’t surprise me. It’s a great story, though. Very cute. I’m very happy that there’s an accompanying picture to go with it, too
These are the kind of things I miss since coming back from Japan!
they are cute little devils aren’t they?
That must be the Ukranian version of “get off my lawn!” Very funny story and a memory that will forever make you laugh!
Entertainment at its best!!
